"Fearfull and Wonderfully"
"Look what I made." As a child, you likely said these words after proudly showing your parents the piece of artwork you created in school or at camp. In that moment, your parents likely commented on your talent and maybe even decided to display your artwork on the refrigerator. When this happens, there's a sense of pride and joy that takes place as you see something that you created with your own hands receive recognition and validation from the people you look up to.
As you get older, that validation is harder to come by. People start to expect more of you. It may have been easy to get straight A's in elementary school, but in junior high, it's not so easy anymore. It may have been easy to make the soccer team in junior high, but in high school more is expected of you. It may have been easy to impress your family members or your teachers, but when you get to college, there's a lot more at stake. The cycle continues, and even though you're so many years into trying to work your hardest and be your best, sometimes you still feel like that little kid, standing their with their artwork saying "look what I made," waiting for the person they care about to provide validation that they've done a good job.
You might be looking at your life right now and instead of thinking "look at this great life I've made" you're thinking "look at the mess I've made of my life." Perhaps you find yourself presenting yourself to others, whether it be employers or family members or a boyfriend just hoping they see the good in you. If you feel that way, you have to hold onto the fact that your worth is not in the life you've made but in The One who made you. Know that God looks at you lovingly and says "look what I made" and that's what matters, and he doesn't need human validation for that to be true. Don't let your life become a pursuit of validation from anyone but the Lord, the One who created you.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14 (NIV)
