But as for me, it is good to be near God.I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds. - Psalm 73:28 (NIV)
Where are you trying to go? What are you trying to achieve? What does the finish line look like for you? Is it graduation? Securing a good job with benefits? Getting married?
Whatever it is, don't allow what you desire cause you to forget to desire God today. Yes, you can praise God when you get to that finish line but why not praise Him for giving you a race to run at all? When we fix our eyes on earthly prizes it's so easy to get lost in them...daydreaming about them, pinning them on Pinterest, saving our money up for them--but what about now? What about the opportunities and experiences TODAY?
I am sure most have heard some variation of the expression, "live everyday like it's your last." It might seem cliche, but it's worth thinking about. God has given you today for a reason. Consider this very moment a blessing just as if you were already at the finish line. Why? Because not only did God give it to you, but here, on this Saturday night He is with you. And He is going to continue to be with you.
So tonight, invite Him in. Open up the door and just talk to Him. He is here in the present moment and He is ready to listen.
The finish line is up ahead and God will provide for you the whole way there and all the way into glory but don't forget about this moment. If it's nothing more than bowing your head and praying or encouraging someone across the room, do that. These moments to embrace God's presence and who Jesus is in your life don't just exist some time in the future when everything is great. They exist right now, in your hardship, your grief, your disappointment, and these moments that are just "okay." When you truly begin to embrace this, your today, your tonight, will look a lot better than it has before, and not because of anything you've done but because you invited Him in.
